Leningrad siege survivor asks governor to patch roof

Valentina Matvienko, governor of St. Petersburg, gets more and more complaints from citizens.

Tamara Bortkiewicz, Leningrad siege survivor and World War II veteran, wrote an open letter to the governor and the vice-governor of St. Petersburg. There Tamara complains of the typical problems of the recent months - leaking roof.

"In my apartment the leak began on January 11, 2010. Similar leaks appeared in the neighboring apartments. It turned out that the metal coating of the roof was damaged. I applied to all possible housing services departments. They accepted applications but did nothing. For almost two months water continues to pour. House manager has taken sick-list and doesn't appear at the workplace for a month".

The pensioner adds that besides the leaking roof she faces such troubles as huge icicles that hang down just at the entrance to her house.

As "Fontanka" reported earlier, officials informed about more than 700 leaks only in January. By today, this figure has grown. More than 525 people were injured because of falling down at slippery roads and from falling icicles.
