The head of the waste management department Vsevolod Khmyrov told the "Fontanka" correspondent that this figure was calculated as a result of investigation on St. Petersburg car market. The point is that car dealers forecast that the maximum sales volume in 2010 will be not more than 40 thousand cars.
According to the Government program which starts on on March 8, 2010 it will be possible to recycle the old car and get 50 thousand rubles compensation for buying a new Russian car or a car which is manufactured on the territory of Russia. However, experts note that demand for this service is not yet known.
The capacity of waste management companies is about 100 thousand cars per year.
